If you’re unable to complete your urine collection during your appointment, please follow the instructions below to ensure accurate results for your physician.
A clean-catch urine sample helps prevent contamination that could affect your test results.
Before You Begin
- Please read all instructions before starting.
- Use only the container provided by Getlabs. Do not transfer the sample to another container.
Label Your Specimen
Before or immediately after collection, label the container with:
- First and last name
- Date of birth
- Date of collection
- Time of collection
Important: If this information is missing or does not match your lab order, the specimen may be rejected and require recollection.
How to Collect a Clean-Catch Sample
- Wash your hands thoroughly.

Clean the collection area using the provided wipes:
- For women: Separate the labia and wipe front to back.
- For men: If uncircumcised, pull back the foreskin and clean the tip of the penis.
- Begin urinating into the toilet.

Mid-stream, collect urine in the container.
- Do not allow your body to touch the inside or rim of the container.
- Secure the lid tightly.
- Wash your hands again after collection.
After Collection
- Do not overfill the container. A small sample is sufficient.
- Place the container in the provided transport bag.
- Refrigerate immediately after collection.
Note: The sample must be received by the lab within 24 hours of collection. Samples older than 24 hours will not be processed.
Sample Drop-Off or Pickup
- You are responsible for delivering your sample to the lab within 24 hours.
- If you prefer, you may schedule a Getlabs pickup (standard appointment fee applies).
